Artista invitado: Cristian Turdera

Ilustrador y diseñador gráfico argentino, Cristian Turdera combina ambas disciplinas con creatividad y frescura, dando vida a maravillosos personajes. Dueño de un estilo único y personal, su arte ha sabido adaptarse a múltiples formatos, haciéndose conocido no sólo en Argentina, sino también en Francia, España y México.


Atraídas por su obra (que pudimos apreciar por primera vez en Pictoplasma París -ver post aquí), los invitamos a descubrir algunas de sus últimas creaciones (que podrán apreciar a partir del próximo 17 de marzo en la Galería Mar Dulce) y a conocer aún más a este gran artista, en una entrevista íntima y encantadora que brindó a Casablock.

¿Cómo es tu rutina de trabajo? 

Me gusta trabajar temprano por la mañana. Hay cierta lucidez en las primeras horas del día que luego se diluye. 

¿Qué profesión te hubiese gustado tener de no haber sido ilustrador? 

No sé tocar ningún instrumento y, cuando alguien ejecuta uno frente a mí, me maravillo. Admiro a los músicos solo por ser músicos. Me hubiera encantado aprender a contar historias combinando sonidos. 

Una película, una canción y un libro de cabecera. 

Una película: “The Nightmare Before Christmas” de Tim Burton. Lo tiene todo. 

Una canción: el disco completo “Outside” de David Bowie. Nombrar una canción sería como arrancar una página de un libro y querer disfrutarla fuera de su contexto. 

Un Libro: “Moby Dick” de Herman Melville es un relato impresionante. 

¿Cuál fue la primera historieta o el primer dibujo animado 

que te hizo adorar la ilustración? 

Todo Hanna-Barbera, Warner Bros, Disney… Nací en 1973 y la primera década de mi vida estuvo totalmente ilustrada (y musicalizada) por los dibujos animados, como la de muchos de nosotros. 

¿Qué artistas son los que más han influido en tu carrera? 

Personas reales con las que pude hablar, interactuar y aprender. Claro que toda la historia del arte es impactante, pero hay una influencia especial cuando tienes la posibilidad de ver el día a día del trabajo de aquellos con mucha capacidad de producción, ingenio en los recursos, inmersos en sus propias transformaciones, sin perder una gota de su identidad. Todos los artistas en los que encuentro estas virtudes, me inspiran e influencian de una u otra manera, sean ilustradores, pintores, músicos, directores de cine o cualquier persona que lleve una disciplina con respeto y se esfuerce por ir hasta el límite de sus posibilidades. Observo mucho a mí alrededor. Hay personas haciendo cosas geniales todo el tiempo. 

¿Cual es tu estación del año preferida? ¿Por qué? 

Me gusta el verano en mi ciudad, Buenos Aires (aunque es difícil soportar el calor). Por momentos, pareciera estar dentro de un capítulo de “La Dimensión Desconocida” cuando queda casi desierta.

Argentine illustrator and graphical designer, Cristian Turdera combines both disciplines with creativity and freshness, giving life to wonderful figures. How is your daily working routine? I like to work early in the morning. There is some lucidity during the first hours of the day that then dissapears.
What profession would you have chosen if you haven't been an illustrator? I don't know how to play any instrument and, when someone plays an instrument in front of me, I feel astonished. I admire musicians only for being musicians. I would love to learn how to tell stories with sounds.
A movie, a song and a bedside book. A movie: " The Nightmare Before Christmas " by Tim Burton. It has everything. A song: the entire David Bowie's album, "Outside". Choosing a song would be like tearing out a page from a book and wanting to enjoy it out of his context. A Book: "Moby Dick" by Herman Melville is a wonderful story.
Which was the first tale or the first cartoon that made you adore illustration? The whole Hanna-Barbera, Warner Bros, Disney… I was born in 1973 and the first decade of my life was totally illustrated (and musicalized) by cartoons, like most of us. 
What artists have influenced your career? I feel influenced by real people with whom I can speak, interact and learn. The entire history of art is also amazing, but there's a special influence when you have the possibility of seeing the daily work of these people, with a lot of production capacity, inventiveness with resources, immersed in their own transformations, without losing their identity. All the artists in whom I find these virtues, inspire and influence me in some way, whether they be illustrators, painters, musicians, film directors or any other person who developes a discipline with respect. I look around all the time and I always find great things done by ordinary people. 
Which is your favorite season, and why? I like summer in my city, Buenos Aires (though it's difficult to support heat). Sometimes, I feel like I'm inside a chapter of "The Unknown Dimension" when it's almost desert.
