Como les contábamos en el post anterior (ver aquí), los tours de Graffitimundo son una buena forma de descubrir la gran cantidad de artistas urbanos que hay en Buenos Aires y la diversidad de estilos que conviven en las paredes de nuestra ciudad.
Los organizadores ofrecen tours grupales, en bicicleta y privados. Para los argentinos, los domingos se organiza un tour gratuito a pie.

As we told you in the previous post (see here), Graffitimundo's tours are a good way of discovering the big number of urban artists that exists in Buenos Aires and the diversity of styles that coexist in the walls of our city.

The organizers offer group, private and bike tours. For Argentinians, they organize a free walking tour on Sundays.

En Buenos Aires, podemos decir que somos realmente afortunados, y la prueba de esta afirmación la vemos a diario en las paredes de la ciudad.
Hace algunas semanas, nos sumamos a uno de los Buenos Aires Graffiti & Street Art Tours que organiza Graffitimundo, y tuvimos la oportunidad de disfrutar de un recorrido sumamente interesante, acompañadas por una guía tan amable como apasionada.
El tour comenzó en el barrio de Colegiales y terminó en Palermo. Fueron más de dos horas de caminata, durante la cual pudimos conocer un poco más de la escena del arte callejero local y sus protagonistas. En el próximo post, les mostraremos imágenes del final del recorrido.

In Buenos Aires, we can say that we are really lucky, and every day we can see the proof of this affirmation in the walls of the city.
Some weeks ago, we did the Buenos Aires Graffiti & Street Art Tour organized by Graffitimundo, and we had the opportunity to enjoy a really interesting tour, with a guide as nice as passionate.
The tour began at Colegiales neighborhood and ended in Palermo. It was a two-hour walking tour, where we learnt a little bit more about local street art scene and its figures. In the next post, we will show you the images of the end of the tour.

Casiokids is a Norwegian electro-pop group who has just presented a video special Olympic Games, Olympiske Leker, with animations by Chad Blevins. "Behind the commercials, the celebrity focus, logistical stress and economic issues, there is something quite beautiful about the concept of the Olympic Games". Athos Bulcão es uno de los artistas plásticos brasileños más importantes y prolíficos del siglo XX. Carioca de nacimiento, y formado en diversas disciplinas, se mudó a Brasilia a fines de los años 50, por invitación del arquitecto Oscar Niemeyer, con motivo de los preparativos por el traslado de la capital del país a esta ciudad. Juntos, trabajaron en numerosos proyectos que combinaron el diseño de edificios, por parte de Niemeyer, y el diseño de fachadas y paneles de azulejos, por parte de Bulcão.

El legado artístico de Athos Bulcão en la ciudad incluye más de 200 obras públicas y una Fundación que lleva su nombre, encargada de preservar y difundir su trabajo. 

Actualmente, y coincidiendo con el mes de su nacimiento, la Fundação Athos Bulcão lanzó la campaña Viva Athos en las redes sociales (con el hashtag #vivathos) para que los admiradores del artista compartan fotos y videos de su obra. Una manera interesante de  mantener viva la memoria del gran Athos Bulcão.

Athos Bulcão is one of the most important and prolific Brazilian artists of the 20th century. Born in Rio de Janeiro and educated in different disciplines, he moved to Brasilia at the end of the 50s, thanks to an invitation of architect Oscar Niemeyer, for the preparations for the movement of the capital of the country to this city. Together, they worked at different projects that combined building design, on the part of Niemeyer, and facade and tile design, on the part of Bulcão.

Athos Bulcão's artistic legacy in Brasilia includes more than 200 public works and a Foundation of the same name, in charge of preserving and spreading his work. 

Nowadays, and coinciding with the month of his birth, the Fundação Athos Bulcão launched the campaign Viva Athos on the social networks (with the hashtag #vivathos), in order that the artist fans share photos and videos of his work. An interesting way of keeping alive the memory of great Athos Bulcão.

Comunidad Huichol Potrero de la Palmita

Hoy, en Casablock, los invitamos a dar un paseo fotográfico por la comunidad Huichol Potrero de la Palmita, un lugar aún por descubrir por los viajeros de México y el mundo.

Desde la capital del estado de Nayarit (ubicada 800 kilómetros al noroeste de la ciudad de México), anduvimos una hora en carro y otra más en lancha, para llegar a la Sierra del Nayar, hogar de la comunidad. A la orilla del río viven alrededor de 30 familias: los hombres se dedican a la pesca, y las mujeres, en su mayoría, a las artesanías. 
Para tener una entrada de dinero, que apacigüe las necesidades en época de veda pesquera, organizaron una cooperativa turística. Dan hospedaje, comida típica, y ofrecen talleres de bordado, telar y madera, artesanías típicas de la etnia Huichol. Son trabajos muy característicos, de colores brillantes y diseños psicodélicos, se dice que inspirados por los efectos de su mítico peyote sagrado (cactácea).

Bienvenidos a este rincón árido del mundo, poblado de personas de rasgos duros, pocas palabras, respetuosos de su cosmovisión ancestral (íntimamente relacionada a la naturaleza) y de gran corazón.

Today at Casablock, we invite you to give a photographic walk along the community Huichol Potrero de la Palmita, a place still to discover for travelers of Mexico and the world.
From the capital of Nayarit's state (located 800 km to the northwest of Mexico city), we travelled one hour by car and another by boat, to arrive to Sierra del Nayar, home of the community. About 30 families live near the river: men are specialized on fishing, and  women, mainly, on crafts. 
To have incomes during the epoch of fishing close season, they organized a tourist cooperative. They provide accomodations, typical food, and workshops of embroidery, loom and wood, typical crafts of Huichol ethnic group. They are very typical works, of brilliant colors and psychodelic designs, it is said that inspired by the effects of his mythical sacred peyote (cactaceae).
Welcome to this arid corner of the world, filled with people of hard features, few words, respectful of their ancient view of the world (very related to the nature) and kind heart.

Fragilidad y delicadeza son las primeras palabras en las que pienso para describir Paraísos Desplegables, muestra de Manuel Ameztoy que, junto con las obras de Los Carpinteros (ver post aquí), completa la agenda actual del Faena Arts Center. 

Ameztoy, primer artista argentino invitado por el museo, presenta una instalación de más de 600 mt2 de textiles calados a mano, de colores, texturas y formas diversas. La propuesta incluye la proyección de un video de la misma obra, montada en el lugar que inspiró al artista: los humedales de la provincia de Entre Ríos.

Fragility and delicacy are the first words that come to my mind to describe Paraísos Desplegables, the exhibition of Manuel Ameztoy that, together with the work of Los Carpinteros (see the post here), completes the current agenda of Faena Arts Center.
Ameztoy, first Argentine artist invited by the museum, presents an installation of more than 600 mt2 of by hand openwork textiles, with different colors, textures and forms. The offer includes the projection of a video of the same work, set in the place that inspired the artist: the wetlands of the province of Entre Ríos.

Siempre es una experiencia agradable visitar el Faena Arts Center. Más allá de la calidad de sus muestras, el museo es casi una obra de arte en sí mismo. Quienes estén en Buenos Aires y aún no lo hayan visitado, tienen por estos días dos excelentes excusas: Los Carpinteros, y Paraísos Desplegables de Manuel Ameztoy (en próximo post).

Los Carpinteros, colectivo artístico integrado por los cubanos Marco Antonio Castillo Valdés y Dagoberto Rodríguez Sánchez, presentan tres instalaciones impactantes, tanto en dimensiones como en propuesta. Aviao, El Barrio y Alumbrado Público, sintetizan el trabajo de esta dupla de artistas que combina elementos de diseño, arquitectura y urbanismo. Hasta el mes de agosto tienen tiempo para descubrirlos. ¡Aprovechen!

To visit the Faena Arts Center is always a very good experience. Beyond the quality of its exhibitions, the museum is almost a piece of art in itself. Those who are in Buenos Aires and who haven't visited it yet, you have two great excuses: Los Carpinteros, and Paraísos Desplegables from Manuel Ameztoy (next post).

Los Carpinteros, an artistic group integrated by Cuban Marco Antonio Castillo Valdés and Dagoberto Rodríguez Sánchez, present three amazing works, both in dimension as in offer. Poppy de Villeneuve / How You Look At It

New York. Verano en la ciudad. En la rutina diaria, los individuos se pierden en una marea de gente. Entre idas y vueltas, las miradas se cruzan, las mentes vuelan. Dulces momentos de escape en medio de la metrópolis.
La autora de esta poética historia es la fotógrafa Poppy de Villeneuve. La modelo china Liu Wen es quién da vida a esta romántica heroína, que cae rendida ante la seducción del actor Edoardo Ballerini. Y la bloguera de culto Hanneli es quién se encargó de registrar el detrás de escena. Pónganse cómodos, esta historia está por comenzar.

New York. Summer in the city. In the daily routine, individuals get lost in a sea of people. Between comings and goings, the looks exchange, the minds fly. Sweet moments of escape in the middle of the metropolis.

The authoress of this poetical story is photographer Poppy de Villeneuve. Chinese model Liu Wen plays the part of this romantic heroine, captivated by the seduction of actor Edoardo Ballerini. And cult fashion blogger Hanneli was in charge of registering the behind-the-scenes images. Make yourself comfortable, this story is about to begin.

Actriz de formación, June Browne Newton, más conocida bajo el seudónimo Alice Springs, acompaña a su marido el fotógrafo Helmut Newton, en un viaje a París en los años 70. Newton debía realizar una campaña publicitaria para la marca de cigarrillos Gitanes, pero, enfermo de gripe, le enseña a su mujer el uso de un luxómetro y una cámara de fotos. Este evento marcó el inicio de una nueva carrera para la Sra. Newton. 

Siempre retratando la vulnerabilidad, June fotografió a lo largo de su carrera a numerosos personajes del jet set. Actualmente, el Museo Europeo de la Fotografía de París rinde homenaje a sus 40 años de carrera con una muestra imperdible.

Actress by education, June Browne Newton better known under the pseudonym Alice Springs, joins her husband the photographer Helmut Newton, in a trip to Paris in the 70s. Newton had to do an advertising campaign for cigarettes brand Gitanes, but, having flu, he teaches her wife who to use a photo camera. This event was the beginning of a new career for Ms. Newton. 
Always portraying vulnerability, June photographed numerous jet set figures along her career. Nowadays, the European Museum of Photography in Paris honores her 40 years of career with an incredible exhibition.
